Spring Break Backpacking: Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument

Spring Break Backpacking: Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument

Need fun adventure plans for Spring Break? Join us for some backpacking desert bliss! The plan is to backpack in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The route is from Hurricane Wash to Coyote Gulch, this trail is just under 30 miles and ends at the Escalante River. People should be able to carry a pack of around 50 lbs and be able to hike 8 miles a day. This hike in non technical, but does involve some navigation and rock scrambling. This region shouldn't have snow, but it will still get cold at night, and during the day it won't be scorching hot. Water will be available throughout the hike, though it will need to be filtered for drinking. Hiking in this region is the best during spring time!

This trip is limited to 10 participants.

We will need as many van certified drivers as possible, as the drive will be a long one. If you aren't van certified, take this quiz online via this link http://transportation.oregonstate.edu/motorpool/video/van-safety and then contact Bridgette at trips@uoregon.edu to inquire about your state's driving record.
