The mountains are calling so we must go! The days are getting longer and there's still plenty of snow, so we're going to South Sister in the Cascades to try our mountaineering skills. This trip is for the experienced and the enthusiastic, so if you like camping in the snow and waking up before the sun to burn for your turns, this trip is for you. If you have a touring set up, that will work, and if you have snow shoes those will work too. The plan is to leave Friday evening aiming towards Mt. Bachelor parking lot where we will ski down the Cascade Lakes Hwy to Devil's Lake and set up a camp. From there we will ascend South Sister for the sunrise and return to our camp in the afternoon for a good ol' snow campin meal. We can talk about staying there another night or finding another adventure in the Cascades before coming back to Eugene on either Monday or Sunday. Again, experience is highly recommended but enthusiastic and tenacious beginners are welcome. We'd like to share our skills so please sign up and come to the pre-trip if you think you'd like to come.
