Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike Backpacking

Saturday, June 01, 2013, at TBD

Thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is an epic undertaking: 2,663 miles of trail, 420,880 ft. of elevation change, stretching from Mexico to Canada. MANY preparations need to be made to successful complete the trip in one season. Given the academic calendars of 2013, the plan is to attempt it within a 100-day window. The average distance per day is expected to be 30 miles. This will be intense! Backpacking and wilderness experience is strongly recommended. Permits, resupplies, logistics, personal gear, emergency training, physical preparedness, trust in your companions, ambition and a strong desire to expand personal and emotional limits will all be necessary. During the 2012 season, the plan will be to post “pre-trip” backpacking trips in and around Oregon. The purpose of these trips will be to help gauge your readiness for the PCT and build our backpacking team. This expedition as a whole, offering the most breathtaking country of the Western US, will be a labor of love. I’m motivated by my passion of the outdoors, sense of primal adventure, wanting for personal growth and pursuit of poetic endeavor. They all inspire me to realize this journey with everyone wanting to join me. Let’s take a walk together.

Ridgeline Trail

A great urban hike only minutes from the UO, this trip will be great for all skill levels! It is a little less than 4 miles with some uphill. There are also links to many more options for exploring on your own later. Only equipment required is appropriate shoes and clothes. Bring a few layers depending on weather.

Columbia Gorge + Cascades

Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 8:00 AM

Oregon is home to some of the world's best wildflowers and lucky for all of us one of the best time to see these flowers is right after finals! Come join us on an Oregon wildflower camping tour. We will still be able to see some of the best flowers the Columbia River Gorge and Cascades have to offer. The current tentative schedule has us leaving on Tuesday the 18th in the early morning and arriving back in Eugene on Sunday the 23rd. We will hike and camp/backpack our way through the Gorge and into the Cascades before looping back into Eugene.

We need a driver for this trip because I am not van certified.

Cost will depend on individual gear rental needs and I am estimating it to be around $70-$80. Bring $20 to the pre-trip to hold your spot!
