Summer Bike School

Learn the joy of fixing your own bicycle with professional mechanics in our student workspace at the OP Barn! Our professional mechanic Al Hongo and bike shop mechanic Ellie Bartlett will be teaching this 6-class session. This is not for credit but rather for self-empowerment. Each class is two hours, and together form a comprehensive series that will teach you to maintain and repair your standard road, mountain or commuter bike.The 6-part series will be on Mondays and Wednesdays: July 20, 22, 27, 29 and Aug 3, 5. Topics covered include:

  • Preventative maintenance
  • Flat repair
  • Wheel bearings
  • Cables & housing
  • Handbrakes
  • Chain & cogs
  • Derailleurs
  • Bottom brackets
  • Wheel truing

Please bring your own bicycle and clothes you're comfortable working in. Note that coaster brakes, internally geared hubs, and wheel building are not covered by this class. Stop by the OP Barn or call (541) 346-4371 to pre-register. Cost is $65.
